Day 2

Floating & Body Control

Trust the water to hold you, then start gliding.

0 of 5 lessons complete

A calm front float proves the water carries you when your lungs are full and your body is long.

Practice checklist

  • 1Standing in chest-deep water, take a normal breath.
  • 2Lean forward, place your face in the water and let the feet leave the floor.
  • 3Arms and legs relaxed and wide, like a starfish.
  • 4Float 5-10 seconds, then tuck the knees and stand.

Key tips

  • · Full lungs float; empty lungs sink.
  • · Press the chest down to raise the hips.

Common mistakes

  • · Lifting the head to check position.
  • · Standing up in a panic before floating.

Safety note

Practise where you can stand up in one movement.

Practice challenge

5 front floats of 10 seconds.

Day 2 Challenge

A 20-second back float, then 8 legs-only lengths of 5 metres with controlled breathing.
